| In February 1995,
Charles A. Gargano was appointed by Governor George E. Pataki to his current
position as Chairman and CEO of Empire State Development Corporation and
Vice-Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. |
|
|
|
|
Chairman Gargano advises the Governor on
economic policy, implements key initiatives and programs to strengthen New York
States economic competitiveness, and oversees billions of dollars of
economic development projects creating thousands of jobs. Under his leadership,
capital investments to New York State include the revitalization of Times
Square, the redevelopment of a new Pennsylvania Station, and the ongoing
renewal of Niagara Falls. |

| Following September
11th, he took the lead in energizing the economic recovery and overseeing
federally subsidized programs for New York. In the years since, he has directed
the States efforts in the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan, including
restoring and building key transportation projects and rebuilding the business
community. |

Chairman Gargano has spent more than 20 years in public service at
the Federal and State level, serving two presidents as well as well at the
administration of Governor Pataki.
Under President Reagan, Mr. Gargano
served from 1981 to 1983 as Deputy Administrator of the federal Urban Mass
Transportation Administration. Presidents Reagan and George Bush appointed him
United States Ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago where he served
from 1988 to 1991. He also served as co-director of Governor Patakis 1995
Transition Team.
Prior to public service, Chairman Gargano worked in
the private sector. From 1963 to 1981, Chairman Gargano was Vice President of
J.D. Posillico Engineering and Construction on Long Island. His leadership in
the Long Island business community garnered him a host of appointments on
boards and commissions in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. As
President of the Italian Earthquake Relief Fund, Chairman Gargano channeled aid
to the victims of the 1980 earthquake which struck southern Italy.
Chairman Gargano earned a Masters degree in Business Administration and
a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Farleigh Dickinson
University. He also holds a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan
College.
Mr. Gargano holds professional engineering licenses in the
states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Oklahoma and Vermont. He has
served as Regional Director of the Association of General Contractors in
America, and as Chairman of the New York State Society of Professional
Engineers in Construction.
He has served as the Chairman of the Board
of Directors for the Childrens Developmental Center. He has also served
as an advisor to both the New York Institute of Technology and New York
Technical College of the City University of New York. He is a trustee of
Manhattan College. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of Good
Samaritan Hospital on Long Island.
