Dennis Watlington
Dennis Watlington
Emmy award-winning actor, writer and producer introduces his new book 'Chasing America' !

Dennis Watlington’s Chasing America is a rollercoaster ride through promise and poverty, affirmative action and addiction – a powerful story that captures a life and an era that is seminally American. Born in Harlem in 1952, Dennis Watlington has been walking a tightrope his entire life. At the age of 14, after bouncing in and out of various schools, Dennis got addicted to heroin.
But instead of being another “one trick pony of victimization,” Dennis kicked his habit and received a scholarship to the Hotchkiss School, where he was elected president of his class. He then went to NYU, grew out his afro and became a different kind of Bleecker Street hippie -- -“part Panther and part Walrus.” Today, he is an Emmy winning television writer. Sponsored with the H. Fred Simmons African American Cultural Center.

'American Dream Book' of the Year 2005 in the Hamptons ( December Issue, Montauk Sun - on the Lemme List) is one of those books that just begs to be made into a hit movie. All there - poverty, racism, drugs, jail, football, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Belafonte (Harry, that is) Geraldo Rivera, the Oscar-winning documentarian Barbara Kopplea and many others. American Dream Man Dennis Watlington overcomes all these obstacles to find ( one day at a time) a great happy ending; where his good looks certainly helped ;) ! Dennis is happily married to his delightful Caucasian wife Anne for the past two decades. Soon on Oprah... wonna bet?
