American Dream Show Guest: Mary Hughes Mary Hughes, Publisher of North American Inns and Spa Life magazines began publishing Canadian Country Inns magazine in 1996. She was surprised to discover there was no publication in Canada to serve the inn industry and decided to concentrate on the Canadian market for the first few years. She then expanded into the U.S. as the popularity of her magazine grew. Canadian Country Inns was renamed North American Inns magazine in deference to its expanded distribution into the United States. "Our magazine focuses on travel, dining and pastimes. From undiscovered gems located in the North American countryside to quaint inns in small villages, everything you need for an exquisite getaway can be found within our pages. We feature only the most splendid inns, bed and breakfasts, and resorts for restful and romantic hideaways." Mary incorporated her business under the Harworth Publishing banner, named after her father, in 1997. She began publishing Spa Life magazine in 1999. Spa Life magazine is aimed at an audience across North America and is dedicated to repose, rejuvenation and new beginnings. "Our readers have a penchant for rejuvenation of body, mind and spirit, or travel to idyllic locales to help them do just that. North America's finest travel and specialty writers present stories about day spas, destination spas, resort spas, health and wellness, alternative healing therapies, nutrition and more." Mary recently joined in a partnership with BBcanada.com to launch Spalifeonline.com, a new tourism web directory for spas across Canada. This August Mary will publish the first issue of Innspire magazine - an annual business-to-business directory for inns, spas and resorts - due out in the fall of 2003.
