| Ingrid Lemme Talks
With A Soprano And Others |
|
Hamptons TV WVVH films
the American Dreams Show with host Ingrid Lemme every month at Gurney's Inn, in
the Admiralty room, overlooking the ocean. Six shows are produced in one day.
When I arrived, Ingrid was already sitting in the make-up chair at the salon
and at 10 she started the first show. The first guest, actor Gary Swanson -
(this fall on Broadway with his latest movie
Whiskey School) was
sitting in the Cafe Monte for breakfast and actually on the way to the spa. I
witnessed as Ingrid approached him. Swanson (a lifetime member of the Actor
Studio) was happy to talk about his upcoming Broadway show, directed by Peter
Masterson and starring Mary Stewart Masterson, Lainie Kazan, Olympia Dukakis,
Carlin Glynn and many others. At the same time
Aida Turturro, HBO's" Janice Soprano" had arrived for her
makeup at the salon. Her show was on at 11 a.m. She was surrounded by people in
the audience and fans who had come to meet her in person. I never would have
thought that a star like Aida could be nervous, but she was, and at the same
time, so down to earth and easily approachable. Ingrid asked her about her
family heritage and we all found out that Aida really has nothing in common
with the role for which she received an Emmy nomination.
Aida is
probably best known for playing Janice Soprano, sister of New Jersey mob boss,
Tony Soprano, on the HBO TV series The Sopranos. She has also appeared in a
number of films including; Sleepers, What About Bob, Jersey Girl, Deep Blue
Sea, Mickey Blue Eyes and Bringing Out the Dead. She made her film debut
opposite Geena Davis in the film, "Angie." Aida was asked to appear on April 11
(the same day of the filming of the American Dreams Show) on a national TV
station about the final episode of the Sopranos and Aida said 'NO!' because of
her promise to appear on the American Dream Show. That just goes to show you
the dedication of a true Montauk resident and Montauk loves her back. Within
minutes the set was ready for the next guest, Mark Levine, a famous playwright
who asked Aida Turturro to read a script that he believes she would be prefect
for. Mark became a member of the Playwright/Director Unit of the Actor's Studio
in 1992. His one-act play 'Catch a Falling Star' was produced by the Actor's
Studio. Mark was commissioned by Ellen Burstyn to write a play in a World War
II setting. His play 'Eyes Right' has been in development at the Actor's Studio
under the direction of director, Peter Masterson. Guest # 4, George Hadjipopov,
of Montauk and his wife Donna arrived and after lunch we all watched one on the
most fascinating American Dream stories one can imagine.
George
Hadjipopov escaped to the United States from Bulgaria at the age of 17,
eventually settling in Montauk. Considered an 'enemy of the state' for leaving
his then communist ruled homeland, he was unable to return home under penalty
of death. When the Soviet Union fell he was finally reunited with his family
after three decades. George and wife Donna started a business that was recently
presented with the prestigious Forbes(R) Enterprise Award in the Home Decor
Division to 'Bulgar USA' at the Lincoln Center.
Guest # 5 was Artist
Peter Weeks, from New Jersey, born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and since then has
lived throughout the country. Married in 1986 to Michele Donato, Esq., a
prominent land use attorney, they settled in Lavallette, New Jersey, where they
live to this day. Peter's education and experience include Rutgers University,
the Huntington School of Fine Arts, and redevelopment of South Street Seaport,
Manhattan, and Fulton Landing, Brooklyn. More recently, Peter has devoted his
time to creative pursuits such as his oil painting, sculpture, and culinary
talents. Three p.m. guest # 6 arrived singer & songwriter Bonnie Lee
Sanders. One of her CDs, 'Bonnie Lee Sanders -A Seasoned Woman', on the J.Bird
Record label, is available in stores throughout the country. Bonnie came on the
show to celebrate her late husband's life,
Arthur Shimkin, founder of Golden Records. She was happily
married to Arthur for four decades. Arthur Shimkin, a Grammy Award-winning
producer of children's records, including Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales
and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' - sung, appropriately enough, by Jimmy
Durante passed away last winter in their home in Manhattan. He was 84. It was
an intense and intimate show, as were all other 5 shows taped this same day.
Ingrid Lemme has what it takes, that German girl who created her American Dream
life right here in Montauk. "It was an amazing day" said Greg and Ernie
Schimizzi (director and executive producers). Sabine and Matt Hindra (the
camera and sound crew), Kathleen Martin, the production assistant and all the
people who came and watched couldn't agree more! |
