What they say about Us:
In Dan's Papers, July 2002:

There is a television show that is based and shot in Montauk. It airs on WVVH, Hamptons Television, which reaches up to 60,000 people. On this show, the hostess interviews her guests about their family history, how they got to where they are today, and what dreams may come.

This show is The American Dream. It takes place in the Admiral's Room of Gurney's Inn, with the serene shores of the Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop. Paul Sladkus is its producer. With thirty years of television experience, you may recognize some of his credentials. They include the following: All in the Family, The Emmy's and Oscars, Sonny and Cher, Good Times, AFI Salute to James Cagney and Orson Wells, Captain Kangaroo, Carol Burnett, WCBS News, LA Lakers' games, The Young and the Restless, The Price Is Right, the Rose Bowl Parade, and more.

On Thursday, July 18, Sladkus overlooked the taping of six episodes. At the end of a busy day of taping, he was in good spirits. "Today's shows were as good as all of our shows," he said. "They are very spiritual, very deep, and have very kind guests."

The producer had great things to say about the show's hostess, Ingrid Lemme. "Ingrid is very warm as a hostess and gets a lot out of our guests," he said.

With the eclectic group of guests at the day's taping, there was much to get out of them. The first guests of the day were Percy and Karin Fahrbach. Together, they looked radiant. Percy, with a full head of bright blonde hair, was dressed in a classy tan suit. Karin was adorned in gold, from her blonde hair, to her gold earrings and gold business suit. Lemme labeled the two as her "Couple of the Year" as they glimmered under the spotlight.

Lemme was warm indeed, as she chatted with the couple in German while the crew continued setting up. She raved about her outfits from Monterrey Bay (which you can find at www.shopthebay.com). While Joanne Dickerson, one of the assistant producers, touched up on the make up and hair of the guests, Lemme asks, "How's my tummy?"
"We can't see it," answers Dickerson.
"Great," Lemme says, inducing laughter among the audience in attendance. "In a few minutes I will suck in my tummy and spit out my gum."

The day of taping began with the interesting story of the Fahrbachs. Percy is the Managing Director of Gruner and Jahr International Marketing and Media Services, Inc., and is the Executive Vice President of Sales in North America. In other words, he is in charge of the publication of numerous popular magazines (i.e. Good Housekeeping). Karin is an interior architect who distributes a variety of furniture that has a surreal quality. It is almost as if Dali himself designed them. "I have always had a feeling for color and how to get things organized," she said.

The two met when Percy was twenty-four and Karin was twenty. They have traveled across Europe, to Paris, Monte Carlo, Vienna, and more. One of Percy's key assets, is his expertise in language. He speaks clear English, as well as Spanish, French, Italian, German, and can order food in Russian. "The business and careers of the future are going to be more and more global," he said, in a delicate and eloquent voice. "Part of a solid education should be languages."

The Fahrbachs are now settled in the West Village of Manhattan. Percy's success began in the early stage of his mid twenties, when the European Management of McGraw Hill found him and offered him a job. He took the opportunity to prove his talent, and has continued to climb a successful ladder ever since. "You have to be lucky, and find someone that sees the talent in you," he said, speaking of his accomplishments. The Fahrbachs can be seen on the opening episode of American Dream on Friday, July 26.

Following the final moments of the first episode, the crew was in good spirits. The cameramen of WVVH joked back and forth with Lemme and her staff, and then were immediately ready for the next taping. American Dream waited anxiously for Cecilia. Cecilia is a singer from Norway and has the voice of an angel. She has sung for the King of Norway, was requested at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and, in December, will sing to 14,000 at Madison Square Garden.

After performing her rendition of "Amazing Grace" on the beach, the audience was quiet in meditation. The song is a personal favorite of Cecilia's, mostly because of the lyric, "I once was lost but now am found." It relates to a time when she was ready to give up on singing.

She attended a seminar in Norway, entitled "Warrior's Wisdom," looking for clues as to what steps she should take during her moments of doubt. It was at this conference that Stuart Wilde, an international author that has produced nineteen books which have been translated in over a dozen languages, met her. Wilde asked Cecilia, on the spot, to get up on the table before him and sing. By the end of her song, Wilde's eyes were wet with tears, and a necessary mix of confidence and inspiration re-entered Cecilia's heart.

A similar instance occurred on the set of American Dream. After singing her song, Cecilia had a deep conversation with Dee Lindholm, an assistant producer for the show. Although no one knows what the subject of conversation was, it was quite clear that Lindholm was moved. Tears of joy streamed down from her eyes as Cecilia hugged her. "There is something about the melodies that I cannot explain," Cecilia said. "They call me to sing, and in singing I wish to project love and let the music soar and inspire." Leading up to her concert, Cecilia is meeting with a voice instructor that has previously worked with Celine Dion and Luciano Pavarotti, which should tell you something. "Madison Square Garden is beyond what I thought was possible," she admitted. Cecilia's spot on American Dream will air on Tuesday, August 6 and Friday, August 9.

Four other episodes were taped on that day. Arthur Pergament and Tatiana Brown, the organizers or Hamptons Hoops (www.hamptonshoops.com) will air on Tuesday, July 30, and Friday, August 2. Liz Zelvin, online therapist, will appear Tuesday, August 13, and Friday, August 16. Ronne Bonder, President of Hamptons Vodka, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, and Friday, August 23. Finally, Lisa Senters, the Vice President of Blue Star Jets, will appear on Tuesday, August 27, and Friday, August 30. Information about the show, the guests, the hostess, and Gurney's Inn can all be found at its website, www.Americandreamshow.com.
